Anichebe awaits police apology

Everton's Victor Anichebe is hoping for an apology after he and a friend were swooped on by police as they were looking in a jeweller's window.

Directed by CCTV operators, officers rushed to the scene in Knutsford, Cheshire, and began a "heated dialogue". The 20-year-old striker's friend was put in handcuffs after police believed the duo were possibly part of a gang of raiders responsible for robberies on exclusive King Street and they were both detained.

On Thursday, Everton spokesman Ian Ross said: "Victor was deeply upset and very distressed by the incident. I believe he is still waiting for a full and unreserved apology from the police involved."

He added: "Once he has received that both the club and the player will consider the matter closed."
