Barcelona’s rivalry with Real Madrid is incredibly fascinating but it doesn’t always stretch to the transfer market. The Catalans have their way of doing things, preferring to develop players through their La Masia academy, while Real Madrid enjoy the attention that comes with making at least one high-profile signing each summer. Two different styles but both breed success. Barca are the reigning Spanish champions while Los Blancos are seeking a third Champions League title in four years. But according to reports in Spain, the two rivals are about to wrestle over a rising star from Portugal. He’s just 17-years-old and if his highlights are anything to go by, it’s no wonder he’s attracting interesting from two of the biggest clubs in football.According to Spanish outlet AS, Porto starlet Diogo Dalot is drawing interest from Barca and Real.

Barca have made a bid

Dalot is primarily a right-back but he’s viewed in Portugal as potentially the next Cristiano Ronaldo due to his pace and power.

While Madrid have only spoken to Dalot’s representatives, AS report that Barcelona have gone ahead and made a €10 million bid for the youngster.

That is some way below Dalot’s €20m release clause but Porto could accept a lower amount.

He is yet to even make an appearance for Porto’s first team but that hasn’t stopped scouts raving about his potential. Check out a video of his highlights below.

Real could have the advantage

One thing in Madrid’s favour is that Dalot, who was included in Portugal’s squad for last year’s European Under-19 Championship in Germany, is a huge fan of Ronaldo.

In June, Dalot posted a photo of himself with the four-time Ballon d’Or winner, adding the caption: “Opportunity to meet the best of all-time and my idol. Another dream come true.”

So while Barca have already made a bid, Madrid could have the upper hand.

Let the battle commence.
