Lincoln City may have lost 5-0 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, but the non-league side still managed to give an excellent account of themselves. That it took Arsene Wenger’s side until the stroke of half-time to break the deadlock is testament to the way they performed over the course of the first 45 minutes. The floodgates may have opened in the second half but in the eyes of everybody associated with the Imps, reaching the quarter-finals and playing Arsenal was almost as good as winning the competition. The Sun have revealed that Lincoln, who currently sit five points clear at the top of the National League, have made a cool £2.5 million from their FA Cup run. They’ve taken £1.116m in gate receipts, £567,000 in TV money, £422,000 in sponsorship and commercial deals, and £394,500 in prize money.

The request Lincoln staff made that 'stunned' Arsenal

The Sun have also revealed how Lincoln staff ‘stunned’ Arsenal officials with one rather unusual request after the match.

Keen to keep the away dressing room as clean as possible, Imps staff asked the Gunners for a hoover in order to get rid of the mud on the floor.

Fair play to Lincoln. Most clubs would have left it to the cleaners.

Arsenal staff responded by providing Lincoln with a brush - inadvertently making their task of cleaning up considerably more difficult(!) - while the visitors also collected all their bottles into a corner.

Great stuff, lads.

“We always clean the dressing room wherever we go,” Lincoln boss Danny Cowley told The Sun. “We conceded at Braintree last season — a terrible goal in a pivotal game for us — and ended up drawing 1-1 but we still swept up.

“The All Blacks call it ‘sweep the decks’. If it’s good enough for the All Blacks, it’s good enough for us.

“We always make sure we clean up and leave the changing room as we found it.”

Take note, Arsenal

Wenger’s men should take note.

Last month, after playing non-league Sutton United in the fifth round, Arsenal left the away dressing room in a right state.

This is how they found it…

And this is how they left it…

Let’s hope they take a leaf out of Lincoln’s book.
