After spending nine years with the Dallas Cowboys and three with the Denver Broncos, DeMarcus Ware formally announced his retirement from the NFL via Twitter on Monday. As one of the best pass-rushers in NFL history, social media overflowed with fans and players who commended the future Hall of Famer for his incredible career. As one of just five players with 130.0 sacks and 30 forced fumbles over the past 20 seasons, Ware ranks eighth in NFL history with 138.5 sacks from the defensive end and outside linebacker positions. However, 117.0 of those sacks came during his productive years with the Cowboys, in which he was one of the most-feared pass-rushers in the entire league.Shortly after news of his retirement broke, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones put out the following statement, per the Cowboys’ official website.“DeMarcus was everything we could have ever wanted in a player, a person and a representative of the Cowboys organization. He was one of the most dominant NFL players at his position in his era, and he was one of the most dynamic players in the history of the Dallas Cowboys. We wish nothing but the best for DeMarcus and his family, and we appreciate and respect his contributions to the NFL and to our team.”Due to his profound success while playing for “America’s team”, Jones and the organization are reportedly trying to get him to agree to a one-day contract so that he can retire as a member of the Cowboys.

While it’s worth noting that Ware won his only Super Bowl with the Broncos and that the Cowboys released him and his high cap number prior to the 2014 season, he made a name for himself in Dallas and turned in his most impressive seasons there.

Peyton Manning, was a co-captain with Ware on the Broncos team that won Super Bowl 50, congratulated his former teammate via ESPN.com.

"DeMarcus Ware is not only a Hall of Fame player, but a Hall of Fame teammate as well. I played against DeMarcus and played with him. It was an honor and a privilege to have done both. Being a teammate with DeMarcus and being a captain of the team was a real privilege for me."

Further, both the Broncos and Cowboys offered their kind words for their former player via Twitter.

Therefore, Ware has an interesting decision ahead of him. Will he retire after his three seasons with the Broncos and simply walk away, or will he sign the one-day deal to hang his cleats up officially as a Dallas Cowboy?

That remains to be seen.

What doesn't remain to be seen, however, was his immense talent and respect for the game.
