For the first time since the 2010/11 season, the Premier League could have two teams in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.Leicester kept those hopes alive after incredibly overcoming Sevilla by beating them 2-0 at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night. It meant that they joined Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund in the last eight of Europe’s elite competition. But there are two remaining last-16 fixtures and Manchester City could well join the Foxes in the quarter-finals. Pep Guardiola’s side beat Monaco 5-3 in the first leg at the Etihad and are expected to complete the job in France on Wednesday. And every football fan in the country wants City to progress so that there are two English sides in the last-eight, right?Well, Manchester United fans couldn’t be blamed if they wanted Monaco to triumph against their city rivals.

Ferdinand lies on BT Sport

However, club legend Rio Ferdinand attempted to suggest that he really wanted City to progress whilst appearing as a pundit on BT Sport. But co-pundit Steven Gerrard was on hand to call him out for lying.

“We’re going to Monaco tomorrow to see the Manchester City game and I’d love to see two English side in the draw,” claimed Ferdinand.

But Gerrard wasn’t having any of it.

“Are you sure, as a Man United fan, you want City to go through?” he asked.

“I’m an England fan,” protested Ferdinand.

“I’m not sure he means that,” suggested Gerrard.

Gary Lineker then got involved and asked Gerrard: “If it was Everton, you’d be cheering them on though, wouldn’t you?”

And Gerrard sarcastically replied: “Yeah, sure I would.”

Gerrard calls Ferdinand's bulls**t

Check out the funny exchange below:

It will certainly be interesting to see quite how happy Ferdinand is in the studio if City do find a way past Monaco and into the quarter-final.

Of course, with Ferdinand’s United in the Europa League and Gerrard’s Liverpool not having European football this season, they both have very little first-hand interest in Europe’s elite competition this season.

However, they will both be hoping their beloved clubs will be competing in it next season by finishing in the top-four.

Liverpool are currently fourth, while United sit sixth, six points behind their rivals but with two games in hand.

And we very much doubt that they will be wanting each other's side to progress if they're both in the competition next season.
