Tony Feguson is still wondering what his next move will be after missing out on taking on Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 209 because of his opponent’s health issues.

The Eagle was trying to make weight for the fight, but doctors ruled him ineligible due to health concerns about him being okay to enter the cage that weekend.

Ferguson is trying to put that entire process behind him and plan for the future. Recently, he discussed his plans for what is next on The MMA Hour.

During the interview he pointed out that he has gained about 25 pounds since UFC 209 and feels good going into the Summer with respect to his training.

He was disappointed that he wasn’t able to showcase some new techniques during the big pay per view and is looking forward to unleashing them on his next opponent.

He told the hosts that he has a couple potential candidates lined up for is next outing in the UFC, which include Michael Chiesa, Michael Johnson, and Edson Barboza.

None of these fighters are big names though and El Cucuy has his sights set on bigger prey the next he steps foot in the Octagon.

In his words: “I’m just throwing a name out there, but I think Nate Diaz and myself could actually put on a good show. I think his ranking is kind of bullshit too, but I don’t really see anybody else.

“Just because he’s a decent striker, I mean, I haven’t had a knockout in a long time. Not trying to call out my shot for a knockout, but I think boxing’s a little bit better than his. It is what it is, I think my stand-up is a lot better, but this is not a boxing match, it’s MMA.”

Those are strong words from the new presumptive new number one ranked lightweight fighter after Nurmagomedov’s absence from their last fight, which will probably knock him down to number two.

The brash lightweight wants Diaz even though he is significantly lower on the rankings chart at eighth than Ferguson, but he presents the kind of momentum gaining move that appeals to a man who wants Conor McGregor in the cage sooner rather than later.

At this point, El Cucuy will have to wait his turn, the entire sport seems to be waiting for an eventual boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Notorious to run its course before building any blockbuster fights.
