Jermain Defoe made a remarkable return to the England squad this week after Gareth Southgate decided to give him his first call-up since 2013.All of Wayne Rooney, Harry Kane and Daniel Sturridge are injured at present, so the opportunity has arisen for the Sunderland striker to add to his 55 caps.Defoe has 14 goals for the struggling Black Cats this season and he was unlucky his 18 strikes last term did not secure him a place in France at the European Championships. The fact that he has remained so prolific despite playing for a seriously struggling outfit is a testament to just how clinical the former Spurs man is.In fact, his 14 goals have come from just 38 shots, and the Beckton-born striker is just as deadly as he has ever been.Defoe certainly has plenty of fans up and down the country who have rejoiced in his recall to the national side, but none more so than his little friend, Bradley Lowery.Bradley is a five-year-old cancer patient who has battled the disease since he was 18 months old, but he is also a massive Sunderland fan and loves their star striker more than anyone else. The brave little boy has touched the hearts of everyone in the football world during his brave battle and the smile on his face despite his dire circumstances is truly inspiring.Still, the smile he produced when told Defoe had returned the England team was the greatest of all. Take a watch.

Bradley has been Sunderland mascot this season and it is believed he will be the England mascot for one of the forthcoming match with Lithuania on March 26.

Imagine how happy he will be Defoe scores!

Defoe even cuddled the youngster - who won the December Goal of the Month award - to sleep in hospital after a bout of therapy for his rare, seemingly uncurable disease.

Nevertheless, the whole football world are behind Bradley's fight and his charity has raised nearly £1 million as they seek to exhaust all options in helping this joyful little boy get better.
