Today, the technically-gifted midfielder has earned his first call-up to the England national team and it has been quite the journey for the lad from Portsmouth.Having been with the club since he was eight-years-old, it's fair to say that Ward-Prowse is something of a Mr. Southampton. He has played for England at under-17, U19, U20 and U21 level so far, racking up a huge 27 appearances for the latter which places him just outside the top 10 all-time U21 cap list.Although the 22-year-old missed the dark days of Southampton in League One, he made his breakthrough with the first team during their stint in the Championship back in the 2011-12 season, appearing in both domestic cup competitions.Six years on and he has firmly established himself as a key first-team player. Gareth Southgate has decided to reward Ward-Prowse and teammate Nathan Redmond - both of whom he knows well from his days as u21 manager - with their first call-ups.While plenty of fans congratulated the set-piece specialist on Twitter, his club had their own way of giving him a pat on the back - take the mickey out of him.Southampton posted a cheesy video of a 13-year-old Ward-Prowse talking about his aspirations to make the England squad one day and it makes for a cringey watch.

Better still, the club made their midfield maestro go back to the same spot and record a follow-up message talking about his call-up!

A decent bit of banter from Southampton for sure, but what are the chances that Ward-Prowse sees the pitch against either Germany or Lithuania?

It all depends on how much the new boss wants to shake things up, but judging by recent Three Lions performances, some fresh blood could really help.
