Arsenal’s top-four hopes suffered a blow at the Hawthorns this afternoon, as the north London outfit slumped to a disappointing 3-1 defeat to West Brom.

The result heaps more pressure on the under-fire Arsene Wenger, whose spell with the Gunners has hit a new nadir this season.

Craig Dawson put the home side ahead in the 12th minute before Alexis Sanchez - who else? - equalised three minutes later with an emphatic finish.

However, Hal Robson-Kanu put the Baggies 2-1 ahead 10 minutes after the break, before Dawson wrapped up the three points with his second goal of the afternoon 20 minutes later.

Arsenal fans are at the end of their tether with Wenger and an increasing number of supporters are now calling for his resignation.

Plane banner drama

Before the match was played, a plane flew over the Hawthorns with a banner which read: ‘No contract. #Wenger Out’.

Minutes later and a second banner, to the bemusement of just about everyone, followed.

This one carried a banner which read: ‘In Arsene We Trust #RespectAW’.

However, following today’s loss, you’ll do well to find too many Arsenal fans who are #WengerIn.

This was another disastrous result for a team that looks totally bereft of confidence.

Arsenal fan's tweet goes viral - for the wrong reasons

Arsenal supporters will be reeling following today’s events - but this tweet from one of their own might cheer them up a bit. Might.

Just as Robson-Kanu was about to come on for Salomon Rondon, @OzilSupply tweeted: “Hahaha West Brom need a goal and they bring on Robson Kanu looooool.”

Seventy-five seconds later and Robson-Kanu had put West Brom 2-1 up following some calamitous Arsenal defending.
