When you hear that Kurt Angle is making his return to the WWE to enter the Hall of Fame class of 2017, you instantly think that one of the greatest of all time is coming home.

WWE is where Angle made his name in the sports entertainment industry, and his Olympic gold medal win obviously played a huge part in that so it’s hard to argue that Angle is not only one of the greatest superstars of all time, but one of the best wrestlers too.

THE GREATEST

That’s a topic that doesn’t have one definite answer, as some will claim Shawn Michaels is the greatest WWE superstar of all time, while others will side with the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock.

Although we’ll probably never have one concrete answer, when somebody like Angle gives his opinion on who the greatest is – you just have to sit up and listen.

He’s worked with some of the finest to have stepped inside of the squared circle during his WWE stint, but he’s explained why – despite criticism – John Cena is the greatest superstar of all time as he prepares to induct the man who was his first opponent on the main roster many years ago.

CLEAN-CUT

Speaking to FOX Sports, he explained: “I would put John Cena in the history books as being the greatest WWE superstar of all time. And it’s not because John is the best wrestler.

“He’s one of the best, I wouldn’t put him at the very top of the list, but he is one of the best. He also has the ability to sell more merchandise than anybody else, and at the same time, he’s done a lot for charities. And the fact that John has been consistent on top for 14 years completely amazes me.

“I was on top for seven, and I was ready to go crazy. And on top of that, it’s the fact that John has stayed out of trouble. I mean, he is a clean-cut kid. He’s the perfect, perfect example of what any aspiring athlete should be. So, I think that having him induct me into the Hall of Fame… He is who I want my son to be. Exactly.”

That’s certainly high praise, but you can’t exactly argue with him either as Cena has proven to be a great role model for kids and hasn’t ever been portrayed negatively in media like some WWE stars of today.

His choice will still draw criticism from fans, and although Cena isn’t the best wrestler to have stepped in the ring, there’s no denying he’ll go down in history as the greatest WWE star of all time.
