McCarthy bemoans woeful Wolves

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy felt his side were 'masters of their own downfall' following the 2-0 defeat at West Midlands neighbours Birmingham in the top-of-the-table clash at St Andrew's.

McCarthy`s men were unable to take advantage of having an extra man following Birmingham captain Lee Carsley`s 36th-minute dismissal for a dangerously high challenge on Chris Iwelumo.

McCarthy said: "With the first goal I wonder whether there's a foul on Wayne Hennessey? The second goal was a schoolboy error and we've been the masters of our own downfall."

He added: "We`ve lost points, I don`t think there was any quality in the game. The first goal wasn`t really and neither was the second."
