Russell Westbrook is having a phenomenal season and is arguably the frontrunner to win the NBA MVP award.

Steph Curry, the reigning back-to-back MVP, has seen his overall numbers drop since Kevin Durant signed with the Warriors last offseason, but proved on Monday night that he is no slouch.

In a 111-95 victory, Curry scored 23 points on 8-of-17 shooting and he also had six assists. Westbrook struggled, scoring just 15 points on 4-of-16 shooting along with eight rebounds and seven assists. The two men traded disrespectful comments about each other in the media recently, and the tension was certainly evident during their matchup.

On the night, the plus-minus numbers told the story. Curry recorded a plus-16, while Brodie posted a minus-25. In four games against each other this season, Curry’s impact has fueled the Warriors while Westbrook has arguably been detrimental to his team. Overall, Curry was a combined plus-68 over the four matchups while Westbrook was minus-66.

Right before halftime on Monday, fireworks occurred between the two, as Curry shoved Westbrook in a scuffle rooted on jump ball positioning. Directly after that happened, Curry ran down the court, caught an outlet pass, fired a three-pointer and swished it at the buzzer, as seen below. But check out what he did after he made the shot.

Did anything look familiar?

The post-shot run into the tunnel resembled Westbrook’s famed warm-up routine.

Curry, who has a distinct and regimented pre-game routine of his own, definitely appeared to troll his opponent after the heated on-court incident occurred.

After the game, Curry dispelled the notion that there will be long-lasting drama between the two teams and specifically between him and Westbrook.

“This league is a very interesting place all the way through,” Steph Curry said via Anthony Slater of The Mercury News. “Certain stories that don’t need to see the light of day, don’t need to have any life breathed into them somehow are the most popular. That’s kind of how it goes. To me, it’s kind of comical what can be put in the spotlight during an 82-game year…I actually look forward to waking up and seeing what ridiculousness is posted.”

This might be regarded as what he defines as “ridiculousness”, but it’s hard to ignore the distinct similarities between his shot and Westbrook’s routine.

Even if he didn’t particularly mean to mimic Westbrook, the chippy contest between the two superstars certainly brought out the arrogant, petty, ultra-confident Curry that took the rest of the NBA by storm over the past few seasons.
