Sunday brought about the final and subsequently the close of the Indian Wells Masters - also known as the BNP Paribus Open - in California, USA.

Rodger Federer became a five-time winner of the tournament as he defeated an emotional Stan Wawrinka 6-4, 7-5, and bagged a healthy cheque for just over $7million in prize money.

The Swiss star defeated Rafael Nadal, Nick Kyrgios and Jack Sock on the way to the final, and added another trophy to what must be a rather large cabinet at this point in his illustrious career.

The Paribus Open, as it's known per sponsorship arrangements, is a Masters 1000 event on the men's tour and Premier Mandatory event on the women's tour.

Played on hard courts, the tournament is one of two outside of the Majors that spans for over eight days. It is the highest attended tournament outside of the Grand Slams, with over 450,000 spectators in 2015.

This year's tournament has produced some stellar displays from some of the world's top tennis players, with the likes of Djokovic and Del Potro contesting Federer for top performance.

Del Potro produced an incredible tweener to gain a point against Delbonis, while Djokovic showed some excellent technique at the net en route to defeat to eventual quarter-finalist Kyrgios, who retired through illness and aims to return for the Miami Open.
