At the age of 39, not many expected Didier Drogba to have much left in the tank when it comes to being out on the pitch.Having spent two seasons with MLS side Montreal Impact, whom he left last year, nobody would have been surprised to see the Ivorian hitman announce his retirement from the game to move on to other things. But that announcement never came. At his age and with his influence, he would have seemed primed for some sort of ambassadorial role within the game, rather than moving into coaching ir management. That's not the case, though, and he looks like he's ready to prolong his playing career even further by signing for a very unexpected club.Having moved to Major League Soccer like a lot of veteran players do, he appears to have taken a liking to North America and now intends to stay there.Though this time he will be moving south of the Canadian border to sign for USL side Phoenix Rising, according to reports. His goalscoring touch was still evident in the American top flight as he hit a total of 23 goals in 41 appearances for Impact, and it's perhaps no surprise to see him wanting to remain Stateside for one last swansong. It is perhaps also no surprise to see that money will play a huge factor in his decision making, with one reporter even claiming that the player will be offered $250,000 to sign for the club.See for yourself below...

Phoenix Rising could complete the deal by Friday, meaning Drogba could soon be teaming up with former Chelsea colleague Shaun Wright-Phillips and ex-Mexico international Omar Bravo, who have both recently signed for the club themselves.

The club is in the process of transforming themselves into a real lower league powerhouse, and are being backed financially by the likes of musicians Diplo and Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy, amongst others.

However, Drogba won't find the Phoenix Rising FC Soccer Complex to be anything like Stamford Bridge, the Stade Velodrome or even Montreal's Saputo Stadium, as it houses just 6,000 fans. It is a temporary base while the club pursue an expansion into Major League Soccer before building a permanent home on the same site.

But news of Drogba's potential arrival in Phoenix has caused quite the stir among fans of the club, who took to social media to express their excitement.

Whatever he decides to do, we're sure he'll be an unmitigated success.
