Sometimes, becoming a world champion in boxing isn't as satisfying as one might think.

Sure, it's difficult. But given that there are so many governing bodies with world title belts, there are more opportunities to rise to the top.

Any fighter that unifies a division must truly be considered a great, but to take things one step further, they might be considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.

The likes of Sugar Ray Leonard and Floyd Mayweather may well battle over the mantle of best pound-for-pound fighter ever, but who is deserving of that accolade today?

The Ring have released their latest top 10 and former number one inhabitant Roman Gonzalez has dropped to fourth place after losing his unbeaten record and WBC super flyweight title to Srisaket Sor Rungvisai last weekend.

The Nicaraguan fighter had a record of 46-0 before that majority decision loss and has plummeted down the rankings as a result.

Gennady Golovkin has risen to third in the rankings following his decision victory over Daniel Jacobs last weekend.

In truth, GGG would have, in all likelihood, secured the number one spot if he had delivered his usual knockout performance, but this was arguably his least formidable display to date.

That has left the door open for American Andre Ward to surge into the number one spot after winning the WBA (Undisputed), IBF, and WBO light heavyweight titles against the man that is second in the rankings, Sergey Kovalev.

The Son of God snatched a decision victory over his Russian counterpart last November, but many felt that he did not truly earn that win and spent far too much time grabbing his opponent.

Here is the complete top 10 below:

1. Andre Ward

2. Sergey Kovalev

3. Gennady Golovkin

4. Roman Gonzalez

5. Terence Crawford

6. Vasyl Lomachenko

7. Guillermo Rigondeaux

8. Canelo Alvarez

9. Shinsuke Yamanaka

10. Naoya Inoue
