At the bottom end of the Coca-Cola League Two table leaders Brentford claimed a 1-0 win at Bournemouth, the victory coming courtesy of Darren Powell's header shortly before half-time.
Powell was then sent off for violent conduct early in the second half.
Exeter beat Wycombe 1-0 thanks to Matthew Gill's second-half strike to replace their visitors in second spot while Bury's 2-2 draw at Darlington saw them slip out of the top three to fourth.
Bury had been on course for victory until Pawel Abbott's 74th-minute effort somehow found the back of the net.
Chris Dagnall (73) scored to help Rochdale to a 1-1 draw at Shrewsbury and keep them in fifth.
Fellow play-off contenders Gillingham beat Dagenham and Redbridge 2-1 at home with Dennis Oli scoring the winner in the 88th minute.
Elsewhere Bradford and Lincoln shared a 1-1 draw, Aldershot and Barnet also drew 1-1, Morecambe won 1-0 at Macclesfield and Port Vale and Rotherham shared a goalless draw.
