The pictures of Jose Mourinho entering the away dressing room to present a gift to FC Rostov manager Kurban Berdyev prior to last week’s Europa League match sparked plenty of interest.Just what could Mourinho be giving to his counterpart?Giving gifts to opposing managers isn’t known as a common tradition but we could certainly get behind it. Just imagine the present Mourinho would give to Arsene Wenger. It’s a different take on the idea that managers would share a drink with each other after a match.Sir Alex Ferguson gave a fascinating insight into this tradition, explaining the quality of wines that some of the Premier League’s big-name managers brought along to post-match meetings.“[Roberto] Mancini always brought a bottle of Sassicaia to the game. He knew his wines okay. Arsene has some decent wines,” Ferguson said in 2014, via the Telegraph.

“Chelsea weren’t very good. I had to remind them that they should have better wine. [Roman] Abramovich in fact sent me a case of Tignanello the next week after I said that.

“And Jose promised to bring a Barca Velha but didn’t, and I gave him so much stick. Next time he came, he had Barca Velha.”

It’s nice to think that opposing managers can put their rivalries behind them and enjoy a couple of drinks after a match.

And Mourinho might just have kickstarted a new tradition with his gift to Berdyev.

The Russian club have revealed what Mourinho’s present was - and it was pretty interesting.

What Mourinho gave Berdyev

The Portuguese gave Berdyev a small replica of the Europa Leage trophy with a Manchester United badge engraved into the front.

The image was accompanied with the comment: “Inside the black box from Jose Mourinho was this super-cool keepsake!"
