Cristiano Ronaldo has scored some sensational goals during his illustrious career.

The four-time Ballon d’Or winner, who will be remembered as one of the greatest footballers of all time when he hangs up his boots, has netted an insane 390 goals in 382 appearances for Real Madrid and many of them have been absolute beauties.

The 32-year-old also netted 118 goals for Manchester United and his magnificent long-range strike against FC Porto in the Champions League and his wonderful free-kick against Portsmouth, in particular, both stand out.

But arguably the greatest goal Ronaldo ever scored was against Spain, who were world champions at the time, back in 2010.

It’s a crying shame that it was disallowed. And to make matters worse, it was disallowed because of his teammate Nani.

How Nani ruined Ronaldo's greatest ever goal

Now, there’s a good chance you’ve already seen this footage, but it’s always worth watching again.

Ronaldo, cutting in from his favoured left flank, leaves Gerard Pique with twisted blood before rolling the ball under his foot and brilliantly lifting it over Iker Casillas.

The Madrid superstar wheeled away celebrating while Casillas and his defenders all raised their hands in the air.

Nani had headed the ball into the back of the net - even though it was going in - and the referee ruled the goal out for offside.

Ronaldo was absolutely furious and produced one of his most epic tantrums.

Nani apologised after the match

Social media wasn’t as big then as it is now, but Nani was still panned for ruining a truly magnificent goal.

The Portuguese winger duly apologised after the match.

"I touched the ball because I thought I wasn't offside. Everything happened so quickly," the then United player was quoted as saying by the Guardian. "After having time to think about it I apologised to Ronaldo. It was a great piece of play and I shouldn't have ruined it."

Ronaldo blamed the match officials

However, Ronaldo vented his anger at the referee and his assistant rather than his red-faced teammate.

"I don't understand, even a blind man could see it was a goal. The ball was half a metre into the net," he told Marca, per the Guardian. "I don't know if it's a coincidence or not but my best goals with the national team are being disallowed. I remember an overhead kick in the Bessa stadium which wasn't given."

All's well that ends well

Nani would make amends six years later, taking the captain’s armband from Ronaldo in the Euro 2016 final after his teammate suffered an injury during the first half and helping Portugal become European Champions for the first time in their history.
