Kevin Owens’ feud with Chris Jericho has been one of the most consistently entertaining parts of RAW in recent months. Their explosive beef exploded after KO attacked Chris Jericho during their festival of friendship.

After hobbling Y2J, he has become one of the most interesting characters on the entire RAW brand. His match with his former best friend now looks to be one of the projected highlights in the entire WrestleMania 33 card.

There are still people who are finding ways to poke holes at the way that the former Universal Champion is being marketed. Vince Russo used to be the head writer for the WWE and told XPac on his podcast that he doesn’t quite get the whole package when it comes to KO.

Russo said: “Everything I’ve said about Kevin Owens, the guy doesn’t like to workout, maybe he’s a little lazy. I’m just saying that, but my point is bro, the guy visually being a little bit overweight, if I were writing for him that would be a part of the character and part of the gimmick and then it would work for him.

“If they (WWE) looked at Kevin Owens and they worked his look into his character, in my opinion bro, it would be a thousand times better and I would have no issue with it. But when they call a guy like that a Prize Fighter, and he looks the way he does, that’s where the disconnect is for me.”

Owens’ billing as a ‘prize fighter’ is a little bit strange on the surface, but he is far from the only wrestler with a bit of a mismatched gimmick. The WWE has worked very hard to eradicate the images associated with steroid use and abuse from their programming.

There are a wider number of body types at the top of the company than ever before and that has led to different match experiences for fans. As long as the people watching love the heel, then he will continue to be pushed by the WWE.

He and other performers like Bray Wyatt might be bigger than some fans are used to, but they aren’t going anywhere. Both this feud with Jericho and Randy Orton’s match with Wyatt at Mania are highly anticipated, even a month before.

Everyone knows that Owens can take care of business in the ring, match against Goldberg aside, and as long as he keeps audiences entertained the only thing he will have to worry about is getting fitted for another championship belt.
