The Hardy Boyz are the most talked about indie wrestlers at the moment as, since their departure from TNA, there has been a big possibility that they could come back to the WWE once more.

Matt and Jeff Hardy are currently signed to Ring of Honor, but the closure of their online shop and recent speculation has suggested the tag team could be back with the company by WrestleMania 33 or just after, possibly on the first Monday Night RAW or SmackDown Live after the pay-per-view.

However, one of the biggest questions surrounding their return is if they'll be able to keep their Broken gimmick which has had great success and if they do, whether or not it will go down well with the WWE universe.

While there have been rumors of legal threats by Impact Wrestling over the Broken gimmick, many fans are hoping The Hardy Boyz keep the gimmick if they do come to the WWE despite the risk of it not being successful. Two of their former opponents, Edge and Christian, are also in that boat.

Speaking to Forbes while promoting their new podcast, Christian said they should keep the gimmick as it's a fresh new look for them that no one would have seen them do in the WWE before.

He said: “It’s all about reinventing yourself. You could probably be The Hardy Boyz, stick your two fingers up, make that ride from town to town and hope that people follow along with that nostalgia.

"Instead, they’ve taken the bull by the horns and reinvented themselves and stayed current, stayed fresh and keep people talking, and that’s what it’s all about.”

Edge agreed with Christian saying: “Wrestling is all about reinvention, and if you don’t reinvent yourself, you’re going to get stagnant and people are going to get bored.

"I think back to when I came back from my first neck surgery and I came back as the babyface that I was when I left. I went in to my hometown of Toronto with the IC title against [Chris] Jericho and Batista and got booed.

“Matt and Jeff are smart enough, particularly Matt — who is very hands-on with all of the incarnations of his character — to try stuff. I haven’t seen a whole lot of it, I’ve seen a couple of things and I thought it was hilarious and awesome.”

As we have seen over the years with the success of The Undertaker and The Wyatt Family, darker and more gothic gimmicks work in the WWE and go down well with the fans despite their craziness.

If anything, it would be a huge disappointment if The Hardy Boyz came back without their Broken gimmick.
