It’s always a tough thing to watch when a footballer breaks their leg, but watching Seamus Coleman’s shattering tackle by Wales’ Neil Taylor was something else.

The defender was rightly red carded for the tackle, which was high and uncontrolled, albeit not intentional.

It’s been branding ‘shocking’, ‘reckless’, and ‘irresponsible by former Wales striker John Hartson, and he told the BBC that, as a pundit, he couldn't defend it.

And, he wasn’t the only one with these thoughts, as major Everton fan Tony Bellew called it ‘disgusting’.

According to The Sun, Bellew, who recently beat David Haye in their bout earlier this month at the O2 Arena in London, also went on to call Coleman ‘one of the best right-backs in Europe.’

The infamous Everton fan took to social media to send his wishes to Coleman, and you can see what he wrote further down this article.

Madness has since ensued

Bellew was obviously upset by the whole incident which has also since sparked all kinds of madness online.

One Twitter user took a screen capture of the commotion and accused Crystal Palace and Wales midfielder Joe Ledley of laughing at the tackle.

Ledley has since, however, refuted those accusations via his own personal Twitter account.

A poor Twitter user, an ex-Liberal Democrat with the same name as the Wales culprit, was trolled by other users for the poor challenge. But, the other Neil Taylor chose to see the funny side of their messages. He sent a tweet that ended with ‘love the banter.’

Coleman had to have career changing surgery on his broken leg

The tackle was bad and caused the Everton right back to have oxygen and be carried out of the Aviva Stadium before being sent to the St Vincent’s University Hospital. It was then confirmed that he had suffered fractures to his tibia and fibula in his right leg.

His national manager Martin O’Neill said: "He has had an exceptional season with both club and country, and he will be a big loss."

Whilst, his Everton boss Ronald Koeman told Sky Sports: "We will support him throughout this."

How was the game?

The football on the pitch wasn’t as great as it could’ve been considering both teams will want to assure their qualification from Group D in these World Cup Qualifiers.

The Republic of Ireland defended from deep within their own half and Wales, even with the talents of Gareth Bale, couldn’t penetrate the back line.

Following the 69th minute sending off, it was always going to be tricky for the away side and the whole incident seemed to mar the on-pitch performances as well as the match.

Best of luck to Seamus Coleman on his road to recovery.

So many people have come out to show their support for the Republic of Ireland international – teammates, coaching staff, pundits and football fans.

Good luck to Seamus on his road to recovery.
