During Friday night's game against the Charlotte Hornets, Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James got scratched in his right eye, which later turned out to be a corneal abrasion. He reportedly said after the game that he would not be playing the following day against the Washington Wizards if he had to wear goggles. The game against Washington arrived and surprisingly, James didn't keep to his word and he appeared wearing a bright yellow set of goggles to keep his eyes protected from any further damage. However, the moment of watching the four-time NBA MVP wearing goggles didn't last very long at all. After just eight minutes and 23 seconds gone in the first quarter with Cleveland down on the score, LeBron ditched the goggles, throwing them towards the side of the court and almost hitting Wizards' Bradley Beal in the process.
The Cavaliers ended up losing the game 127-115 with James finishing the night with 24 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists after just over 41 minutes of playing time, concluding as the team's top player on the night. Getting rid of the goggles worked for him, but his team couldn't come out of the game with the win.
James said to reporters about the goggles after the game, according to Fox Sports: “I missed a couple of shots and I was like, ‘The hell with those things’."
LeBron may have played better without the goggles, but it didn't stop him making this awesome dunk with them on.
However, the Cavaliers woeful defense couldn't do enough to stop Washington, as they dropped to a 6-8 record this month, making it the twelfth time out of the 14 games they have played this month which the team has allowed 100 points or more in a game.
Cleveland's head coach Tyronn Lue has a secret plan to fix his team's defensive problems, but he says he won't be implementing the plan until the playoffs arrive later this season.
All LeBron will be hoping for is that it doesn't involve him wearing the goggles once more.
