Ryan Giggs has had plenty of free time since leaving Manchester United last summer. The Welshman left Old Trafford to become a head coach, preferably at a Premier League club, after the Red Devils overlooked him in favour of Jose Mourinho following Louis van Gaal’s dismissal. But eight months later and Giggs is still on the lookout for his first managerial position. The 43-year-old held talks with Swansea City earlier this season but hit back at claims he had a poor interview by saying the Swans “did not meet my ambition”.That happened back in October. Since then, Giggs hasn’t been seriously linked with any other club but pops up every now and again on ITV Sport.
Funny exchange between Giggs and Dixon
While the Premier League legend is no Gary Neville, he’s far from a terrible pundit and obviously knows what he’s talking about. His playing career seemed to last forever.
He also possesses a dry sense of humour and there was one particularly amusing moment between him and Lee Dixon that offered a small consolation for sitting through England v Lithuania.
The 2018 World Cup qualifier wasn’t a classic but Gareth Southgate’s side got the job done thanks to goals either side of half-time from Jermain Defoe and Jamie Vardy.
“I was never a natural goalscorer,” Giggs said after the match while talking about Defoe, “but they just have the knack of being in the right place at the right time.”
Lee Dixon, referring to his co-pundits legendary goal for United against Arsenal in the 1999 FA Cup semi-finals, then said: “You weren’t bad at semi-final goals, though.”
Mark Pougatch said: “Let it go, Lee, let it go…”
Dixon then made a funny face, which made his colleagues laugh.
“I’ve completely lost my track now,” Dixon admitted, which sparked a brilliant response from Giggs.
“You lost me on that goal, didn’t you?” the retired Wales international joked.
Stony-faced, Dixon then turned to Giggs and said: “Alright…”
Ian Wright, by this point, was about to burst.
Dixon added: “You’re very close now, just remember that!”
Giggs patted the retired full-back on the leg, as if to reiterated that it was just a bit of banter.
