Despite competing in Ring of Honor and being one-half of the tag team champions alongside his real-life brother, there has been plenty of talk about Broken Matt Hardy making his return to the WWE.Since the start of the year, speculation continued to intensify as their stint with Impact Wrestling officially ended – the physical aspect of it anyway – and the cards seem to have fallen into place perfectly which suggests a return to WWE is not too far away.

WWE RETURN?

Most recently, Matt’s merchandise store was officially closed which proves to be the biggest hint that they’re coming back, as it’s obvious the WWE won’t allow them to sell their own merchandise when he’s so over as they can make a lot of money themselves.

While many fans believe it’s simply not happening because of their deals with Ring of Honor, numerous sources have claimed that it’s a short-term deal and WWE have also sent out contracts to Matt and Jeff.

The reported plan is for them to drop the tag team titles on Saturday night at the Supercard of Honor XI event to the Young Bucks in a ladder match, which allows them to either show up at WrestleMania 33 the following night, or even save their returns for Monday Night RAW.

There’s a bitter legal battle going on, though, as Impact Wrestling believe they own the Broken gimmick and it’s why some WWE fans aren’t excited about a return as the feeling is he may be unable to use that gimmick.

BROKEN GIMMICK

However, WWE’s social media team has been teasing the fans over the weekend by making a clear reference to the character, which eventually got a response from Matt himself.

Alongside the video, they tweeted: “You better believe tables were BROKEN in the battle between The #HardyBoyz at the 25th Anniversary of #WrestleMania! #WWENetwork.”

WWE knows there’s a legal battle going on, so either they’re just getting fans excited by trying to stir things up with the rival promotion, or they seem pretty confident that they’ll be able to use that gimmick when Matt is back in WWE.

As expected, Matt got the fans even more excited when he responded to their tweet with a simple message of his own.

He responded: “Did someone say #BROKEN? EXQUISITE.”

And the reaction from fans said it all; they want him back and they want him back soon.

It’s interesting to see this interaction, especially since WWE doesn’t really make references to some of their former stars, certainly not those that either left on bad terms or found huge success elsewhere and are signed to a rival company.
