Chester boss Mark Wright admits his side's chances of remaining in the Football League are "hanging by a thread" - but has praised the efforts of his players.

City were beaten 2-0 by fellow strugglers Bournemouth at the weekend and are now four points adrift of safety ahead of Saturday's must-win trip to Aldershot.

"We're aware that our Football League status is now hanging by a thread but things have been hard for us," Wright told the Chester Evening Leader.

"Everybody else has been able to strengthen their squads while ours has remained the same.

"I think my boys have done tremendously well but when we face a big, organised side like Bournemouth, we didn't have enough to trouble them.

"We have to win at Aldershot on Saturday and I would be hoping for Grimsby to beat Bournemouth because Bournemouth have to go to Morecambe on their last day."
