England are halfway through their qualification campaign for the Russia World Cup and things are going well.Five games played, four games won and one draw means they’re four points clear at the top of the group with Slovakia, Slovenia and Scotland trailing in their wake. It’s looking more and more likely that Gareth Southgate’s side will be booking their tickets for Russia very soon and thoughts have already turned to which players deserve to be on that plane come next summer. In fact, some pundits have gone as far as naming the starting line-up Southgate should use in Russia in 15 months time. One of those pundits was Ray Parlour who, on talkSPORT, revealed the XI players he would play if he was manager. However, there was one minor problem with Parlour's team. Can you spot it?

Parlour's big mistake

“I would play three at the back, although you need to give yourself options so it could go to a back four," he said.

“I would have Joe Hart in goal. Then John Stones and Gary Cahill, and I would give Michael Keane a run out. He played well in Germany.

“Then there are also the options of Chris Smalling or Phil Jones.

“But I would have Kyle Walker on the right and Danny Rose on the left if he’s fit. I think Rose would go ahead of Ryan Bertrand.

“Then Jordan Henderson and maybe Eric Dier. I’m looking at how Chelsea play with N’Golo Kante, Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas. I would change it.

“If you’re not playing against Germany or Spain, and instead someone like Scotland, you can afford to put more midfielders in. Ross Barkley and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are options.

“Then I would have Raheem Sterling on the right. Dele Alli has got to play just behind the front.

"Adam Lallana has become very important. And then Harry Kane up front."

When Parlour notices his mistake

Noticed the problem?

Yeah, Parlour has actually picked 12 players. His reaction when he eventually realises is priceless. Take a look:

To be fair, given England’s performances in recent tournaments, playing 12 players in Russia is probably their only chance of success.

The Three Lions haven’t been in a position to challenge for a major tournament in decades - so attempting to field an extra player could actually be a good idea.

In all seriousness, though, if Parlour wanted to play 3-4-3, he would have to sacrifice one of Raheem Sterling, Dele Alli or Adam Lallana from his side.

We doubt Southgate will be taking any of Parlour’s advice, though.

There’s a reasons why Parlour never made it as a manager - his inability to count to 11 is one of them.
