Even though it looks almost impossible in the WWE, the fans still want to see Daniel Bryan compete in the ring at least one more time. While an on-screen general manager role is better than not having the former WWE Champion around at all, there’s still a feeling that Bryan deserves to go out on his terms and have another match in the company.

ONE MORE MATCH?

The options are endless, fans would kill to see him mix it up with the likes of AJ Styles, Finn Balor, Seth Rollins, Hideo Itami and Shinsuke Nakamura – but another name you can throw into the mix is The Miz because the story makes complete sense.

Bryan had a different idea on who he wanted to compete against, though, and it was actually a real possibility according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

In an interview with the Whig last year, Bryan confirmed his desire of wanting to face off against Brock Lesnar.

He said: “What I really wanted was I wanted a match with Brock Lesnar, that was my thing.

“But I didn’t want to go into the match with Brock Lesnar [having] that be the first time I ever take a German suplex [following] my neck surgery.

"So, I wrestled Luke Harper and he German suplexed me on my head and everybody was like, ‘Oh my gosh, why did you do that?!’

“It’s because I have this mentality of, ‘Well, I don’t want to go in there against Brock knowing he’s probably going to give me one zillion German suplexes and not having taken a German suplex before and not having known that my neck was going to be ok.”

SCRAPPED SUMMERSLAM MATCH

In a further update from Meltzer after a fan asked him the question, he revealed that it was actually a planned SummerSlam main event many years ago, but it obviously didn’t materialise either because of Bryan’s health or maybe a change of direction with their storylines.

The likely situation was that Bryan would have replaced John Cena in his match with The Beast Incarnate where Cena was destroyed and lost his WWE World Heavyweight Championship in 2014.

The rumoured idea was that Lesnar would destroy Bryan in the same manner so that they can put a lot more heat on Lesnar because the fans loved Bryan so much.

If you’re one to believe rumours, though, then many are speculating that if Bryan and Lesnar don’t sign new contracts with WWE and opt to jump ship to NJPW if the right money is offered, we could see them go at it there.

Don’t expect WWE to let them go easily, though.
