Ever since the WWE Draft in 2016, Smackdown has arguably established itself as the brand utilising it's roster to the most effect.

Smackdown has become known as the land of opportunity and has seen the first ever WWE Championship reigns of AJ Styles and Bray Wyatt since the brand split.

The best place after NXT?

Several former NXT stars have found success on Smackdown including American Alpha, Becky Lynch and Alexa who have all won titles since the draft and Baron Corbin who has received a main event push in recent weeks.

One former superstar who graced Full Sail University but hasn't lived up to expectations on Smackdown is Eva Marie.

Marie is one of the most polarising superstars on the WWE roster and has been for some time, but her work when she joined Smackdown last year firmly placed her as one of the main heels on the show.

Marie worked an angle after the draft which saw her fake numerous injuries and even suffer wardrobe malfunctions in order to avoid wrestling.

It now looks like she is set to continue that streak as per a report on WrestlingInc, a WWE Insider has reportedly claimed that the company will not be renewing her contract.

Marie hasn't been seen for several months after she was given a 30 day suspension in August last year and she has since gone on to complete several projects away from the WWE.

Marie's social media channels tend to also stay away from the topic of wrestling with her Twitter bio not even mentioning WWE.

All red everything has even changed her infamous hair colour and is no longer sporting the vibrant red, instead reverting to a more subtle dark hair style.

If Marie is done with WWE, it seems unlikely that she will be involved this Sunday at WrestleMania.

A surprise entrant?

WrestleMania will see Smackdown Women's Champion Alexa Bliss defend her title against every available woman on the roster.

Marie had been rumoured to be one competitor in that match but if WWE really does intend to let her contract expire, it is unlikely she would be utilised.

One name that could appear in that match however is current NXT Women's Champion Asuka.

Asuka is currently in the midst of an incredible unbeaten run on NXT and will be defending her title against Ember Moon at Takeover Orlando on Saturday night.

She is being tipped as a surprise entrant in the match on Sunday and has been working live events recently alongside other main roster talent.

If she does appear at WrestleMania and subsequently joins Smackdown, she will be arguably the biggest NXT superstar to join the main roster so far in 2017.
