The international break is well known for allowing footballers to get in each other's ears about potential transfers.

Capitalising on the stories in the press, players frequently discuss what life is like at their respective clubs and give each other gentle nudges out the door if a link appears to be strong enough.

Mostly this only really affects players at smaller clubs, but every once in a while something more high profile comes along to become the hot topic out in the dressing room.

For the past few weeks now, Inter Milan playmaker Ivan Perisic has been linked with a move to Manchester United, with rumours even claiming that Jose Mourinho was in Croatia last week to keep tabs on the £35million-rated attacker.

However, Croatian international defender Dejan Lovren is hoping to be able to convince him to head for Merseyside if he does opt to leave the confines of Serie A anytime soon.

So much so that he's even admitted to embarking on a full on charm offensive in order to convince him to link up with Jurgen Klopp's men at the end of the season.

"We players do not know anything about [transfers] until it happens. That's always the case," he told Croatian publication Jutarnji.

"But a player like Perisic moving to Liverpool would be great. He is a top quality player.

"At Liverpool , all the players would welcome him with open arms. Obviously I do not know if it is true.

"What I can say is that he has exceptional football skills, knowledge and a higher than average quality.”

However, despite Lovren's best efforts, his pleas may fall on deaf ears considering Perisic's spotted history with the German tactician.

The pair have previously worked together at Borussia Dortmund, but during a spell out of the side, Perisic criticised his manager and his team selections publicly, to which Klopp responded by calling him "childish".

And while we're sure Klopp isn't the kind of manager to hold a grudge about such an insignificant incident, it may prove a sticking point for the player.

The 28-year-old was a different player back in 2011 when he joined Dortmund, and with time and maturity, the pair may find it within themselves to be able to work together again in a more harmonious fashion.
