Some may see Twitter as a bizarre way to arrange a boxing bout, but for Chris Eubank Jr, it was the opportunity he was waiting for.

Eubank Jr., who recently made the move up to super middleweight, is clearly a fighter in a hurry and not content to see his career stall.

His idea was to challenge heavyweight Tony Bellew, the conqueror of David Haye.

The pair had started a casual discussion on Twitter before Eubank Jr. publicly challenged Bellew for a fight despite conceding over 40 pounds to the heavyweight.

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn said he got a call from Chris Eubank Sr. to inquire about the possibility of the fight happening.

World boxing news.net reported Hearn as saying: "Senior messaged me and asked whether there were any legs in this and I was just - 15 stone and he wants to fight Tony Bellew? - A middleweight calling out a heavyweight? - I don't know what to say.

"It was bizarre. And they are actually saying, 'do you want to have a chat about this?' and I'm like 'no.' I told (Tony) that (about the Eubank contact) and he was like 'what?' He just thought it was half a joke on Twitter.

"But Eubank likes calling out these guys, it gets people talking about him, but he just never fights them, that's all."

Currently, Eubank is in possession of the IBO super middleweight belt after defeating the Australian Renold Quinlan with a 10th round stoppage in February.

With that win, history was made as it was the first time father and son had won world titles

It was his first fight at the super middleweight, and now the 27-year-old, with an overall record of 24 wins (19 by knockout) and one loss, is looking for his next challenge.

Sadly for him, and perhaps the British boxing fans, it won't be against Bellew.

In terms of the Merseysider's next fight, reports say a rematch with Haye could well be on the cards.

In the fight game, things change rapidly and unexpectedly so watch this space.
