Liverpool were dealt a major blow in their quest to finish in the top four this afternoon after discovering that Adam Lallana could be out for up to a month with a thigh injury.Jurgen Klopp’s side face an almighty fight to qualify for next season’s Champions League and Lallana has been key to their form this season. However, the former Southampton star could now miss five matches - including Saturday's Merseyside derby. It’s a case of deja vu for Lallana and Liverpool, though. The midfielder suffered a calf injury playing for England against Spain in November which ruled him out for several weeks. After hearing the news, Liverpool fans immediacy blamed England boss, Gareth Southgate. The new manager of the Three Lions played Lallana for 66 minutes against Germany on Wednesday before playing him for the entire 90 minutes against Lithuania.Based on that evidence, it’s probably a bit harsh to criticise Southgate. However, a video has emerged that has outraged Liverpool fans.At half-time, Lallana could be seen walking down the tunnel rubbing his thigh - clearly struggling with an injury. However, he went on to play the full 90 minutes, despite England rarely being troubled against their opponents.Supporters clearly think that Southgate refused to take Lallana off, despite him struggling with a knock.

Lallana limping

Take a look:

Of course, Lallana may have kept his thigh injury quiet or it may have been the medical staff who made the decision to keep him on the pitch. Either way, Liverpool have every right to be disappointed with the way it was dealt with.

Liverpool fans react

But Liverpool fans are blaming one man for it - Southgate. Take a look at the reaction on Twitter:

Klopp certainly won’t be happy with losing Lallana for such an important stage of the season.

With just nine matches remaining, the Reds are hoping to finish in the top four, ahead of two of their rivals. They are currently fourth but have played two more matches than Manchester United and Arsenal, who are four and six points behind them respectively.

And Lallana is crucial of Liverpool’s tactics, with his energy and high-pressing. He’s also weighed in with seven goals and the same amount of assists.

If Klopp sees the above video, he’ll certainly have a few questions to ask about why Lallana was made to play the whole match.
