FIFA couldn’t have asked for a better trial of their video technology during the friendly between France and Spain. After a goalless first-half, it didn’t look as though we would need the intervention of the video ref in Paris. However, just a few minutes after the interval, Antoine Griezmann appeared to put Les Bleus ahead with a header. The Atletico Madrid forward did his trademark celebration before the rest of the French side started jogging back to the halfway line. However, they soon realised that the goal would be disallowed as, after watching a replay, the video ref decided that left-back Layvin Kurzawa was offside. It was the correct decision and France couldn’t have any complaints. But was video technology’s success just a one-off?Well, half an hour later, Spain were thankful for video technology once again.Gerard Deulofeu appeared to put the away side 2-0 ahead only to see the linesman's flag raised. However, the video ref was busy looking at replays and it resulted in the officials eventually awarding the goal.Football fans’ biggest concerns about video technology is how long it takes for decisions to be changed. How long does it take for the video ref to analyse the decision and make the right call?Well, it took 40 seconds for Deulofeu’s goal go from being disallowed to being allowed.

Deulofeu's goal

Take a look:

Is that too long? Or is 40 seconds alright for the right decision to be made?

Twitter reacts

It seems Twitter can’t decide. Take a look at the reaction:

Either way, you can’t deny that France’s friendly with Spain could change the history of football forever.

FIFA will no doubt be delighted with the way video technology was used and the fact they overruled two important decisions correctly.

It will certainly be interesting to see where FIFA go next with video technology and whether they start using in competitive matches in the near future.
