When Spain are on song, there’s simply no stopping them.France have been more than aware of that fact tonight as La Roja ran out 2-0 winners at the Stade de France. It proved a rude awakening for a home side displaying the young talent for which it has gained so much attention in recent weeks.Despite only video refereeing denying Antoine Griezmann and Les Bleus the lead, Spain came into their own in the second half.

David Silva scored the opening goal for the Spaniards from the penalty spot. A foul was given in the area after Laurent Koscielny felled Gerard Deulofeu and the replays confirmed the referee’s suspicions.

The man who won the penalty ensured his own name found its way onto the score sheet in the 77th minute, though. The ex-Everton man was very much indebted to Sergio Busquets for the game-sealing strike.

The Barcelona midfielder may not be known for his intricate skills and dribbling, in fact quite the contrary. Nevertheless, it became vastly apparent that his talent defies that of simply tough tackling and immaculate passing.

Having received the ball from Silva, Busquets was smothered by three French players just outside of the centre circle.

With one simple turn though, Tiemoue Bakayoko, N’Golo Kante and Griezmann were all taken out of the game. The ball found its way to Jordi Alba, who played a one-two and eventually squared the ball to Deulofeu to tap home.

It was a brilliant piece of skill and one that proved integral in Spain’s second strike. The moment of inspiration can be seen below:

It proves the latest reminder of the mercurial nature of Spanish football at its peak. The magic of 2008 through to 2012 may have suitably faded, yet the body of talent is still sufficiently rich.

Moreover, it’s fair to say Twitter was somewhat impressed with Busquets’ moment of magic. The fact that no other than Kante himself fell victim to the maneuver has only serves to augment both amusement and amazement.

Who ever said tiki-taka was dead?

All this considered though, Busquets will need to take that kind of skill into La Liga and hope it can inspire Barcelona back into the title race. After all, the Catalans are two points adrift of Real Madrid and have played a game more.

As for the international stage, at age 28, the defensive midfielder has a few more competitions to strut his stuff. With a World Cup and European Championship title in his trophy cabinet already, however, he won’t necessarily be in a rush.

Some might say, given his achievements already, it could just be time for a showboat. Kante knows it all too well.
