You’ve probably seen that video technology was used, and to pretty good effect, during France’s international friendly against Spain on Tuesday night.Antoine Griezmann had a goal ruled out for offside by a video assistant referee while Gerard Deulofeu was awarded Spain’s second goal after it was incorrectly flagged for offside by the linesman. Two big calls and two correct decisions. The trial was a success and will encourage FIFA president Gianni Infantino to push forwards plans to introduce Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in time for next summer’s World Cup finals in Russia. Many people were surprised at the speed and accuracy of the system at the Stade de France. However, Paul Ince - the former retired England midfielder, 49, who last managed Blackpool in 2014 - wasn’t as impressed.

Ince isn't a fan of VAR

Ince argued, per the Independent, that VAR spoils football because “getting decisions right takes the emotion out of the game”.

He went on to suggest that "football is all about right and wrong decisions".

Many people said exactly the same thing when goal-line technology was introduced…

Ince's comment to Jacqui Oatley

That wound up many football fans on Twitter, particularly as the Tuesday’s trial was a clear success, but it was Ince’s comment towards ITV Sport presenter Jacqui Oatley that led to him being blasted on social media.

“We'll have another chat [about video-technology] in five years' time darling," Ince said.

Oh dear.

Oatley laughed off Ince’s prehistoric banter, before adding: “Alright darling, I look forward to that.”

And now everyone thinks Ince is a dinosaur…

It’s safe to assume we won’t be seeing Oatley working alongside the former Manchester United and Liverpool player any time again soon.
