Amir Khan has stated that he's interested in the possibility of fighting in the UFC, after negotiations between him and Manny Pacquiao fell through.

Much has been said about a potential fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather, which would see Notorious try his hand at boxing in a fight that could be worth millions of dollars.

Now, Amir Khan has suggested that he's interested in going the other way, to try his hand at MMA fighting.

The Bolton-born boxer said: “I always said I’d give it a go, I’m a fighter who likes to fight and try different things.

“I don’t know if I’d be any good at it but I’d give it my all."

Khan then went on to issue a warning to McGregor, saying that he'd easily beat him in the boxing ring, and would even know how to beat him in an MMA fight.

“He [McGregor] wouldn’t know – I’d just hit him – bam-bam-bam-bam, but if he grabbed me I’m done, I’d have to work on that.

“Nate [Diaz] choked him out and Nate said to me ‘he’s not the best when you get him on the floor’, so he’s normally a stand-up fighter.

“In boxing, I think I beat him quite easily in boxing but in MMA I think it might be tough but you just don’t know."

Despite these big words, Khan knows that McGregor is a big deal in UFC and that he would be very tough to beat in McGregor's domain.

Khan spoke of what McGregor has done for UFC, and explained that at the end of the day, fighting is all about promoting yourself, even if that's being the bad guy.

“Conor’s a fighter who’s put the UFC on the map, he knows how to market himself.

“This is what fighting is all about, it’s all about promoting yourself, sometimes being that bad guy and making yourself a big name."

Khan seems to be excited by the prospect of a career change, but he knows that the UFC is a different ball game to boxing. The potential for crossover fights is exciting, mind you, and none more so than a potential McGregor v Mayweather boxing fight.

Who knows whether McGregor's big-money boxing fight against Mayweather will happen? If it does, it would certainly be interesting to see who wins, as the two sports are quite different in approach.

Would a boxer be able to beat a UFC fighter at their own game? How about the other way around? Let us know in the comments.
