Hibernian have been running the rule over Crewe midfielder Michael O'Connor.
The 21-year-old Northern Ireland international was training with the Easter Road club but has now returned south.
O'Connor was the subject of a failed £1million bid from Derby last season but, with his contract set to expire at the end of next term, could be available for a lot less.
He has fallen out of favour with new Crewe boss Gudjon Thordarson and has recently been on loan at Lincoln.
Hibs boss Mixu Paatelainen said in the Edinburgh Evening News: "He's been with us but that's a weekly thing as we keep looking and he's just one of several we've seen.
"We'll make a decision when it's the right time to do so."
