It's been a whirlwind month for Basitan Schweinsteiger. The veteran's move to MLS outfit Chicago Fire went from rumour to reality in a short space of time and now he already wants to win the World Cup with his new side.

Seriously, a journalist genuinely asked that as a question...

It may not have worked out for him at Manchester United, but he leaves with his head held high by never throwing a tantrum about being left out under Jose Mourinho.

But, like in life as in sport, we all have regrets, and the former Germany international has one of his own regarding the way he left the Red Devils.

Having been granted his exit from Old Trafford, the former Bayern Munich man left for Spain where he was able to keep up his fitness levels by training with Real Mallorca while he waited for his work permit to come through.

And while he may have posted a classy video bidding United's fans a find farewell, his teammates didn't get such a blessing as he was ushered out the door before he had the chance to say goodbye.

"It was not so easy because the decision was a bit late so I couldn't say a proper goodbye to the team," he said as per the Daily Mirror.

"Also they had a match away.... so I couldn't really tell them because I didn't want the focus on me, but on the team.

"I had a great time there, especially with the team-mates and the staff there."

Schweinsteger has already undergone his first training session with his new teammates, describing it as "intense" and he now may be ready to play his first game against Montreal Impact this weekend.

The 32-year-old is one of his side's designated players and isn't expected to see much of the bench, and he has insisted that he is ready to jump straight into the action despite his lack of recent game time.

When asked how much he had to offer his new team he replied: "A lot. I am 32 years old. I am ready, but of course I need more training sessions to have the right rhythm, to be where I want to see myself.

"My head is more than 100%. I feel quite comfortable. The session was pretty intense today [Wednesday] and I could do it, so that was good.

"I was preparing before I came here and, of course, I need some days more training but I feel I am ready whenever the coach needs me."
