So much still needs to be decided this season, and yet that hasn't stopped people from already looking ahead to the summer transfer window ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.

Manchester United broke the world-record for a transfer fee back in August when they brought Paul Pogba back to the club, and it looks like they are going to be active in the market once more.

The most talked about deal over the past five or six months has undoubtedly been Antoine Griezmann's potential move to Old Trafford.

The French forward is enjoying another fantastic season for Atletico Madrid, registering 22 goals in 40 games, while their Spanish midfielder Saul has also caught Jose Mourinho's eye.

However, it's another Atletico player who is said to be interested in a transfer to Man United this summer, and it's someone who has been linked with the Red Devils in the past.

Atletico star keen on joining Man Utd

The Mirror have reported that central defender Jose Gimenez is keen on joining Man Utd and is open to making the move this summer.

The highly-rated Uruguayan enjoyed an impressive couple of seasons under Diego Simeone, however he has been replaced this term by Manchester City reject Stefan Savic as Diego Godin's regular centre-back partner.

In total, Gimenez has started just 16 games for Atletico so far this season, and he is a player who, per the Manchester Evening News, United considered buying in January, alongside Benfica and Sweden star Victor Lindelof.

Will the deal happen?

At 22, Gimenez could form a dominant long-term partnership with Eric Bailly, who signed for United last summer for £30 million as Mourinho seeked to improve his defensive options.

The Uruguay international's current contract at the Vicente Calderon expires at the end of next season, but it contains a massive £56 million buyout clause.

This could be a potential stumbling block in any move to the Theatre of Dreams, since United are understandably reluctant to pay such a huge fee, given that Gimenez would only have a year left on his deal at Atletico.
