Arsene Wenger has made some huge transfer blunders throughout his Arsenal career.

Just the other day, for example, the Frenchman revealed an agreement was in place to sign Luis Suarez from Liverpool in 2013 but that he was wrongly advised on the Uruguayan's buyout clause.

"He was very close [to signing for Arsenal]," Wenger told beIN Sports. "We had an agreement with the player.

"We had been wrongly advised that he had a clause, with a minimal clause, but we had an agreement with the player. You can ask him."

Suarez isn't the only player Arsenal have come close to signing, though.

According to various sources over the years, the Gunners also missed out on the likes of Paul Pogba, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Vincent Kompany.

Had Wenger landed even just a few of those names, there's no doubting Arsenal would have won the Premier League at least once over the past decade.

But he didn't, and now the 67-year-old's future at the Emirates Stadium is in doubt following yet another disappointing domestic season.

N'Golo Kante is another who slipped through Wenger's fingers, having been linked with a move to Arsenal in 2015 and 2016 but joining Leicester City and Chelsea respectively.

Wenger has been forced to regret not signing the indefatigable France international and it's now been revealed exactly why a deal didn't go through two years ago.

According to French football expert Julien Laurens, Wenger passed up the opportunity to sign Kante from Caen in 2015 because he didn't think he was good enough. No, really.

"They looked closely, they went to see him at the French camp - Arsene went to see him a lot," Laurens told BBC 5 Live, per the Mirror.

"They just didn't think he had enough to make it into their team and then it was too late.

"Then they tried to sign him last summer and he decided to go to Chelsea.

"It's a weird one, but again I don't know why bigger clubs weren't there when he was at Caen because it was so obvious (signing Kante)."

Wenger tried to rectify his error of judgment by signing Kante from Leicester last summer, but he was beaten to the punch by Chelsea's Antonio Conte.

And who does he have now? An out-of-form Francis Coquelin, the reckless Granit Xhaka and the inconsistent Aaron Ramsey. Nice one, Arsene.
