Tony Bellew has stated that he only wants to go through with a maximum of three more fights in his career, should he wish to continue fighting at all.

Bellew will make a decision on his future on a family holiday as he looks to take a break from the sport following his stunning underdog win over David Haye at the O2 Arena in London.

The Liverpudlian could still hang up his gloves despite being linked with several lucrative fights in the aftermath of the Haye bout.

However, Bellew is eager to spend time with his family away from the media spotlight as he discusses his future with them and assesses his options.

"Listen, I might never fight again, that's the absolute fact of the matter," said Bellew.

"I'm going to go away for a little break with my family and when I get back I'll have news. I'm going to take a little bit of time to reflect on everything that has happened.

"I'm going to go on holiday and we're going to see how it goes when I get back. I'll know exactly what path I'm going to go down and what I'm going to do."

34-year-old Bellew, whose reign as WBC cruiserweight champion ended this week when he was named 'emeritus champion', refused to rule out the possibility of coming back for that title at some point in the future after another heavyweight bout.

Asked for a maximum number of fights, Bellew said: "Three, because I'll win the heavyweight championship and I would need two fights to unify the cruiserweight championship, so that's why."

The possibility of potentially having to undergo surgery on his hand in the near future will also be weighing heavy on Bellew's mind, after suffering an injury in the 11th round of his bout with Haye.

"I've got a fracture on my knuckle, so I'm waiting to see if it calcifies on its own, which hopefully it will do," he said.

"If it doesn't calcify on its own, then I'm going to have surgery in two weeks' time."

The majority of boxing lovers will hope that the destructive Merseysider does eventually decide to fight on as he will be a big miss if he chooses to call time on his career in the sport.
