Brentford clinched the League Two championship and promotion to League One with a 3-1 win over 10-man Darlington on Saturday.
The hosts got off to a bad start when Alan White was sent off after a minute and a half but it took Brentford until the 35th minute to make the breakthrough thanks to Alan Bennett.
A brace from Billy Clarke all but sealed the result and ensured that Pawel Abbott's goal on the hour mark was nothing more than a consolation.
They are now four points clear of second-placed Wycombe who could only draw 1-1 at Port Vale. Lee Collins scored for the hosts shortly after the hour mark but Lee Sawyer rescued a point for Wycombe 10 minutes from time. The Chairboys now need just a point next week to secure automatic promotion as they are three points clear of fourth-placed Bury who could only record a goalless draw at Gillingham.
Exeter remain in third spot after they drew 2-2 against Morecambe to end their opponents' promotion hopes. The visitors took the lead in the ninth minute through Stewart Drummond but goals from Dean Moxey and Ryan Harley in the first eight minutes of the second half appeared to have given Exeter all three points until Drummond pounced again 10 minutes from time.
Rochdale sealed their place in the play-offs with a 1-1 draw at Luton, Adam Rundle's second-half effort cancelling out Tom Craddock's 33rd-minute penalty.
Dagenham and Redbridge now have the edge in the race for the final play-off berth after they beat Notts County 3-0. Sam Saunders fired the visitors ahead in the 34th minute and Matt Ritchie added a second 10 minutes later before doubling his tally two minute from time. The Daggers are now two points clear of Shrewsbury who were held to a goalless draw by Lincoln City.
At the other end of the table, Chester have been all but relegated after they drew 2-2 at Aldershot. Ryan Lowe put them ahead from the spot in the second minute but a Kirk Hudson brace gave Aldershot the lead. Lloyd Ellans equalised shortly after the hour mark but Chester could not find the winner and are now three points behind Grimsby with a vastly inferior goal difference.
Elsewhere Bournemouth beat the Mariners 2-1 and goals from Nat Brown and Kristian Dennis either side of Albert Adomah's strike gave Macclesfield a 2-1 victory over Barnet.
Bradford triumphed 3-0 over Rotherham and Robert Grant scored the only goal of the game five minutes into the second half to give Accrington Stanley a 1-0 win over Chesterfield who also had Jack Lester sent off late on.
