Fans were given a glimpse into the future of football on Tuesday night when video technology correctly ruled out Antoine Griezmann's goal against Spain. The Atletico Madrid star headed past David de Gea in the 48th minute but replays showed that Layvin Kurzawa, who provided the assist, was in an offside position. It took 50 seconds for the video assistant referee (VAR) to disallow the goal, during which time Griezmann and his France teammates celebrated and ran back to their own half.As you can expect, Les Bleus' players weren't very happy with the call, especially so when video technology later overturned a decision to give Gerard Deulofeu's goal. The 23-year-old was flagged offside by the linesman but, 40 seconds later, the referee confirmed he was onside and pointed to the centre circle. There's an argument to be made that video technology disrupts the flow of football games but, on the whole, it's a positive step in the right direction.Such is the speed of modern-day football that it's simply impossible for match officials to give the correct decision every time, whereas a video assistant can.The controversy surrounding video technology in the France vs Spain game has since been a big talking point in the media, with Arsene Wenger now giving his pennies worth.

Speaking ahead of Arsenal's showdown with Manchester City on Sunday, the Frenchman pretty much nailed it when he said video technology has been introduced 15 years too late.

Wenger, who watched Spain beat France 2-0, said: "We are really stupid. Why did that not happen 15 years ago? It shows the football world is still a regressive world."

The imminent introduction of video technology in domestic football will please most managers in Europe, especially so a certain Jose Mourinho.

Back in January, the Manchester United manager explained how video assistants are a must in professional football to help referees to make the correct decision.

He told FIFA.com: "We all need it. Professionals can't lose or win matches and titles because of a refusal of this evolution.

"Sponsors, owners and investors must feel that technology is there. Also, referees especially need and deserve protection.

"They need the technology to help them, protect them and to support them."
