The Oklahoma City Thunder have been fortunate to have two of the league's best all-around scorers play for them in recent years.Currently, star point guard Russell Westbrook is still entertaining OKC faithful on a nightly basis, but his former running mate, Kevin Durant, is now a member of the Golden State Warriors. While trying to carry the Thunder on his back this season, Westbrook has recorded an incredible 38 triple-doubles (including Wednesday's 57-point, 13-rebound and 11-assist effort in an overtime victory over the Orlando Magic) and is the favorite to win the NBA MVP award. However, in addition to making history with the highest-scoring triple-double in NBA history in Wednesday's 114-106 win, Westbrook also notched his 15th game with at least 40 points this year, breaking Durant's franchise record of 14 such games:

Westbrook seems to be on a mission to not only remove Durant's name from the OKC record books, but also to do a lot of rewriting of the NBA history books as well. With 38 triple-doubles this year, he needs only three more to tie Oscar Robertson's mark of 41 in a single season.

Following the overtime win, Westbrook told ESPN.com that he appreciates the outstanding season he's having and is thankful he's able to do what he does on a nightly basis:

"That is definitely a blessing," Westbrook said after the game. "I definitely don't take this game for granted, and I try to come out each night and try to compete at a high level. That is definitely something that is a blessing and definitely something that I can be proud of."

With eight games remaining in the regular season, it's a safe bet that Westbrook will do everything he can to break Robertson's triple-double record. Even if he can't do that, he'll still likely end the season averaging a triple-double, which would probably seal the MVP award for him.

As he chases the record, his teammates will enjoy a front-row seat to the show. Victor Oladipo told ESPN.com that it's an amazing experience to play alongside a guy chasing history:

"Words can't really describe it," Oladipo said of watching Westbrook. "It's just an honor to play alongside him as he kinda etches his name in history."

The Thunder clinched a playoff berth with Wednesday night's win. They are now 43-31 on the season and currently hold the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference playoff race, trailing the fifth-place Los Angeles Clippers by one game.
