Five months have passed since 71 people were tragically killed when LaMia Flight 2933 went down in Colombia. On board that plane were the Chapecoense football squad and staff, on their way to Medellin for the first leg of the 2016 Copa Sudamerica final.Only six people survived the plane crash, including three of the players: Alan Ruschel, Jakson Follmann and Neto. Goalkeeper Danilo initially survived the crash but died after he was taken to hospital. The entire football world united for Chapecoense, who are firmly in the process of rebuilding their squad.Vagner Mancini became the club’s new head coach in December and a host of new players have joined the club, mostly on loan, as they prepare for the start of the new Brazilian season in May.

Barcelona the only club to have given Chape financial aid

Despite the tributes from across the globe, however, Chapecoense president Plinio David de Nes Filho revealed last week that Barcelona were the only club to give them financial aid - which is both surprising and disappointing.

"Barcelona was the first team that showed solidarity with us, and for now, it's the only team that's helped us financially sending us €250,000 [£216,000],” he was quoted as saying by Cadena SER.

He also revealed that a friendly will take place against the Catalan giants in May.

Marca journalist has collected 15 shirts from stars

A couple of charity football matches have also been played to raise money for Chapecoense, including the victims’ families, while Spanish newspaper Marca have also devised a plan to help the widows and families of those who passed away in the plane crash.

Marca journalist Fabian Torres has collected 15 shirts from famous footballers, per 101 Great Goals, including Chelsea duo Diego Costa and Cesar Azpilicueta, and Manchester United’s goalkeeper David de Gea.

Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres and Brazilian legend Kaka have also donated shirts.

De Gea's signed shirt and message

As well as signing a Spain goalkeeper shirt, De Gea wrote the following message: “A hug and all my support. We will not forget them.”

Fernando Torres signed shirt

Torres also wrote a message of goodwill - including "Forza Chape!" - to the South American club, who were crowned the winners of the 2016 Copa Sudamerica at their opponents, Atletico Nacional’s, request.

Touch of class

A touch of class from the aforementioned stars and hopefully it goes on to raise a huge amount of money for the victims’ families.
