QPR's on-loan midfielder Adel Taarabt has returned to Tottenham with a knee injury which will require surgery.

The 19-year-old Morocco international suffered the injury in training on Friday, forcing him to miss Saturday's goalless draw with Plymouth.

A scan has shown a cartilage tear which has brought a premature end to his season.

Taarabt made seven appearances for Rangers and scored one goal in the 2-1 win over Bristol City last month.
