Royle fires Latics wake-up call

Boss Joe Royle has blasted his Oldham players for an "inability to learn from their mistakes" amid speculation his contract may not be extended beyond the end of the season.

The 60-year-old has failed to win in any of his eight games since returning to the club in a short-term capacity in March, a miserable run of form that extends to 11 games without a victory prior to his appointment.

"What disappoints me most is certain players' inability to learn from their mistakes and make the progress you would expect," he said.

"I have never been one for running a boot camp so I gently remind people about things but it isn't sinking in - in that situation, to be blunt, you change your players.

"The basis is here for a decent team but there are big clubs coming down from the Championship and this is going to be a strong division next season."
