Rumors have only been heating up about a potential reunion between the WWE and The Hardy Boyz, but a new interview with Jeff Hardy may kill all speculation.

The Hardyz are preparing for a big WrestleMania weekend, with or without the WWE. They'll defend the Ring of Honor Tag Team titles Saturday, and are also wrestling the day before at WrestleCon.

The latest comments from Jeff suggest that they may not have much more action than that planned, despite the fact that he and his brother Matt will be in Orlando during the biggest wrestling pay-per-view of the year.

Hardy sat down for a wide-ranging interview with CBS Sports' Chuck Carroll, discussing wrestling, music and more. The dagger in the heart for WWE fans anxiously waiting the yell "DELETE" on Sunday is this little nugget from Jeff, though.

Hardy was asked about the rumors that the WWE has presented Matt and Jeff with contracts. Jeff shot it down, noting that it takes "so much testing" to go through the legal process with the company.

"No, because you have to go through so much testing and all of that. It’s a long process. But, no. We know some people there and naturally, after WrestleMania dies down, maybe a couple of months from now, we’ll see what’s possible. But there is no truth to that whatsoever."

That's a huge blow to fans who've been building up anticipation that The Hardyz would make an appearance at WrestleMania. It could all be smoke and mirrors from Jeff, of course, as he tries to protect a surprise in the near future.

The problem, unless this is also a part of the show, is that Jeff also notes their contracts with RoH aren't as short as initially reported. It appears The Hardyz are signed through the summer, based on what he told Carroll.

"It’s short-term. It’s through the summer. What’s cool about Ring of Honor is that we can still go out and work the indie dates. That’s another thing about the TNA deal was that they wanted to take our indy dates from us, and I really enjoy working the independent circuit.

"I would say our Ring of Honor deals are through the summer. It’s a short-term deal and we’ll see how things go. We’ll test the waters for a while and hopefully help the company grow."

The Hardy Boyz and RoH are a good pair, being one of the larger non-WWE promotions they can call home for the time being while also being able to go about their expedition of gold across the independent scene.

We'll find out in just a few short days whether Jeff was telling the truth or simply trying to throw fans and pundits off their scent with just a few days left.
