It's been quite the debut season at Liverpool for Sadio Mane.If the Reds weren't already aware of just how important the Senegalese is to their side, they found out the hard way when he left them in January for the Africa Cup of Nations. It's no coincidence that it was then Jurgen Klopp's side had a dip in form.Since returning to the Premier League, Mane has picked up where he left off, and Everton's defenders must have been dreading lining up against him on Saturday afternoon. The Toffees had every reason to be cautious of Mane. The 24-year-old had already scored 12 goals and assisted another five since moving to Merseyside from Southampton in the summer. Then again, if Ronald Koeman's defenders were frightened of him, that didn't extend to actually putting in a tackle.Koeman knows the player well from their time together at St Mary's, so he'll no doubt have warned his troops of his abilities.Yet, in the eighth minute of the derby, Mane found himself two against three, but picking up the ball 30 yards out he decided to run at Everton.

What a run

He cooly waltzed past Ashley Williams and co, performing a brilliant solo run before poking the ball into the bottom corner.

Philippe Coutinho tried it for himself a few moments later, only this time it didn't come off.

It sent an already emotionally-charged Anfield into raptures, minutes after the afternoon had begun with a tribute to the legendary Ronnie Moran.

It's not as if Everton didn't expect Mane to have an impact.

Speaking to ESPN before the game, midfielder Idrissa Gueye admitted he threatened to "kill" his international team-mate at the AFCON because he doesn't defend - but he had let him off because he scores so many goals.
