If Manchester United fans had it their way, Bastian Schweinsteiger would still be at Old Trafford.Despite the German midfielder suffering with injury for the majority of his 18 months at the club, he was something of a fan favourite at the Theatre of Dreams for his professionalism in spite of Jose Mourinho’s treatment. The Bayern Munich legend certainly left the club in a classy way with his touching message on his Twitter page."I would also like to say thank you very much to the wonderful fans, the atmosphere and also the great staff at the club - but especially my fellow players. Thank you very much,” was the final message in a lovely farewell video.Following United’s disappointing 0-0 draw with West Brom on Saturday afternoon, Schweinsteiger was named in the starting line-up for Chicago Fire in their MLS clash against Montreal Impact. And Schweinsteiger did in 17 minutes what the United side failed to do in 90 minutes against West Brom and score a goal.Chicago’s new signing met a fine cross with a bullet header from six yards to make an immediate impact just days after arriving.

But that wasn’t Schweinsteiger’s only involvement in his first 45 minutes at the club.

While he’s not known for his mobility and skill these days, the 32-year-old showed he's still got it with a cheeky nutmeg on an opponent before surging forward with the ball.

And Twitter absolutely loved this piece of skill from Schweinsteiger and reacted brilliantly on Twitter:

Seeing his former player on the scoresheet and producing nutmegs, Mourinho might regret his decision to banish Schweinsteiger to the reserves for the majority of this season.

Mourinho on Schweinsteiger

In fact, after he completed his move to the MLS, Mourinho admitted that he might feel a tad guilty with the way he treated such a likeable guy.

"Bastian is in the category of players that I feel sorry for something that I did to him," Mourinho said following his departure.

"I don't want to speak about him as a player, I don't want to speak about him as whether I would buy him or not to buy him. I want to speak about him as a professional.”

However, Schweinsteiger is probably thankful for being forced out of United because it seems he’s very much enjoying himself in the United States.
