When Cesc Fabregas broke the deadlock in the fifth minute against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon, it appeared to be business as usual for Chelsea. There’s always a degree of uncertainty after an international break but if any coach can ensure that complacency doesn’t seep in, it’s surely Antonio Conte. However, the Blues found themselves 2-1 down just six minutes later thanks to quick-fire goals from Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke.Conte’s men failed to find an equaliser, despite dominating the match, and they subsequently suffered their fourth defeat of the campaign.Second-placed Tottenham closed the gap on Chelsea to seven points, following their 2-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor, and Mauricio Pochettino’s side will now believe they have an outside chance of catching their London rivals with nine matches left to play.

Huge three points for Palace

As for Palace, this was obviously a huge three points in their battle to beat the drop.

Sam Allardyce has turned things around at Selhurst Park over recent weeks - as most football fans expected the would - and Palace, having secured their fourth consecutive Premier League victory, remain four points from safety in 16th position.

Benteke's goal sparked funny reaction from Chelsea fan

Benteke’s goal, if you haven’t seen it yet, was just outrageous.

The Belgian striker brilliantly dinked the ball over the prone Thibaut Courtois to score what would prove to be the winning goal.

And as he wheeled away celebrating, some people on Twitter - including the Mirror’s John Cross - noticed one of the Chelsea fans produced a very amusing reaction.

Did you notice it?

Yep, the fan in question was spotted doing the classic ‘w***er’ sign at Benteke, who didn’t seem to notice.

Reaction on Twitter

Anyway, as you might imagine, Twitter found it very amusing.

A mixed response, as always...

Allardyce: Premier League is best in the world

After the match, a delighted Allardyce said his team’s victory over table-toppers Chelsea was another example of why the Premier League is the best league on the planet.

"Everything comes down to how resilient you are when you are not in possession," the former England manager told Sky Sports. "Anybody who tells you any different is not really up to speed, because anyone that wins anything has one of the best defences, if not the best.

"All you have to do is look at Chelsea, who had only conceded one goal here in their last five games.

"What delights me is the Premier League, and we are the shock team today, and that can happen anywhere at any time in this league. That's why it is the best league in the world.

"I won here when I was at Bolton, when Claudio Ranieri was in charge here, and that was from 1-0 down too... but under the circumstances this was amazing.

"Chelsea were 10 points clear - I think they are going to go and win the league. The quality of their players meant we had to be resilient when defending against them, and we were, and when they did breach that, our goalkeeper was magnificent.

"Our forward line took their opportunities. The plan worked. We played differently than we would normally play, but it has worked very well for us today.

"In the end, because of injuries to a back five, we had to see out a lot of stoppage time at the end."
